They do not have specific den. They find the place to sleep of the day every day. It depends season or weather; they always choose the place like steep cliffs or overhead /bottom of a tree. They huddle with immediate family members or good friends and squat down holding hands and legs when they sleep, some of them sleep alone.
In this area they start moving from dawn and walk around in their territory for foraging or resting for a while. After that they come to the Yaen-koen to get food or to take a rest. During daytime they stay in the Yaen-koen and start leaving in the evening. They continue moving and eating until they find the place to sleep of the day and go to sleep after dark. They repeat these behaviors everyday. The Jigokudani Yaen-koen is a special part of their territory where they can get food at anytime.
Animals which have specific den need to keep the inside of the den clean, so they eliminate outside of the den. On the other hand, the Japanese Macaque do not have specific den so they eliminate anywhere they like. This behavior is not only for the Japanese Macaque but also gorillas, chimpanzees and any other monkeys. Maybe you have seen chimpanzee with a diaper on in a TV program. Though monkeys are clever animal, it is impossible to train of elimination in a toilet. This says that monkeys are unsuitable for pet. Please watch your step and over your head carefully when you observe monkeys to avoid the harm of spoor.
