Habitat of the Japanese Macaque

Nomadic

The Japanese Macaque is diurnal animal. They start moving in the early morning and spend time for foraging or resting all day long. When night falls, they find the nest of the day and go to sleep. On the next day they repeat the same behaviors. This is called nomadic.

They do not have specific den

They do not have specific den. They find the place to sleep of the day every day. It depends season or weather; they always choose the place like steep cliffs or overhead /bottom of a tree. They huddle with immediate family members or good friends and squat down holding hands and legs when they sleep, some of them sleep alone.

A Day at Jigokudani Wild Snow Monkey Park

The Japanese macaques (snow monkeys) who visit Jigokudani Wild Snow Monkey Park become active from daybreak, from which time they travel around the forest while stopping by the park on occasion to get food or take a break. In other words, daytime is their time to eat and relax at the park. Around the early evening, they begin to leave the park, moving about and gathering food until nightfall. They find a place to settle down around dusk and go to sleep once night falls. These patterns repeat from day to day. From the perspective of a snow monkey, Jigokudani Wild Snow Monkey Park is a special place where they can stop during their daily activities to get food anytime.
