To Visitors Planning a Trip to Jigokudani Monkey Park During the Winter Season

2025.11.20 Notifications

Our park is well-known in Japan and abroad as a place where you can see “Snow Monkeys” — wild Japanese macaques bathing in hot springs. Because of the recent increase in inbound tourism, the park becomes extremely crowded throughout the winter. During New Year holidays, long weekends, and regular weekends, many domestic visitors also come, and this often causes “full parking lots” and “heavy traffic” on the surrounding roads. Please understand that you may have to wait a long time to park the cars and to enter the monkey park.

Since the number of parking spaces is very limited, we kindly ask visitors to use public transportation when coming in winter. Except for guests who have difficulty walking or need special assistance, please avoid coming by private car or rental car as much as possible.

Depending on the level of congestion inside the park, we may temporarily limit entry. From next year, to reduce the crowds at the ticket counter, we are planning to introduce online ticket sales. We are also considering limiting the number of tickets on particularly busy days to improve the visitor experience.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Jigokudani Monkey Park is located deep in the mountains and exists solely for observing wild Japanese macaques in their natural environment. Before your visit, please check the latest information and current conditions on our official websiteX, or Facebook
